Giving Back More Than Her Time
Andrea Sparkevicius, class of ’91 and ’99, gives more than just her time back to NMSU. As an active member of the International Board of Directors for the Alumni Association, she has seen the beneficial role giving to student scholarships as both an alumna and as a student. “NMSU gave me so much besides a great education; it gave me a desire to give back to others so they could experience the family at NMSU. It’s about paying it forward.”
Sparkevicius’ family inspired her to attend NMSU. Her father and sister were enrolled in classes and education was always something that her family strongly believed in. “My father always told me ‘It is something they can never take away from you’ and he was right.” Sparkevicius received support from her parents with scholarship provision under the stipulation it be used no more than five miles from home and her degree was completed.
“The fond memories at NMSU are too many to count," says Sparkevicius, “but the fondest memories have happened lately because I am an active member of the Alumni Association." She hopes by giving herself will help to inspire others to get involved in any way they can, whether it is their time, talents, or treasures.
